GAO/Gallup 2002 - “Public Views on Changing Coin Design”

Posted on: 10-19-2011 Posted in: Resources

In 2002, Gallup surveyed whether adults favored or opposed replacing the $1 bill with the $1 Coin if it saved the government $500 million dollars each year:

“The percentage of survey respondents who opposed replacing the dollar bill with a dollar coin decreased when government savings are mentioned. When told that it would save about half a billion dollars a year if the U.S. government replaced the dollar bill with the dollar coin, the number who said they were opposed dropped from 64 percent to 37 percent and those who said they were in favor of such a proposal increased from 17 percent to 55 percent.”
